The Phoenix roebelenii (Phoenix roebelenii) is a short, often clustering palm, sometimes with a thin skirt of dead leaves. Live, 1-1.4 m long leaves have several straight, dark green leaflets often beneath, often with smooth, scale-like fur. Bowl-shaped cream flowers occur in panicles, around 45 cm in length, typically in summer, and ellipsoid, edible black berries, up to 1 cm in total length.
